Texting with Tiger

TigerConnect.jpgEffective communication is the key to success for highly complex teams—healthcare is no different. That is why EMHS has chosen to implement a HIPAA-compliant secure texting solution, Tiger Connect. At EMHS, we use many tools to communicate with our patients, coworkers, and communities. In such a large organization with so many tools, it can be hard to find the most effective way to connect, especially when you’re racing the clock.

To minimize the chances for miscommunication and maximize efficiency, EMHS providers now have access to a secure messaging service that allows care team members to communicate securely about patient conditions. We all know that the ability to communicate quickly and work as a team is important to the delivery of high quality patient care, and secure messaging is just one more tool to achieve desirable outcomes.

“Secure messaging has transformed communication on the cardiology service,” said Alan Jansujwicz, MD, FACC, chief medical information officer of inpatient services at Eastern Maine Medical Center. “We work in care teams with multiple physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and nurses. Secure messaging allows us to communicate about the care of our hospitalized patients. We are more efficient and work better as a team because of it.”

The HIPAA-compliant messaging service has been shown to provide measurable improvements in critical areas like patient satisfaction, discharge and transfers, staff satisfaction, lowered readmission rates, a reduction in medical errors, and a reduction in bed days. In addition, with end-to-end message encryption, PHI is protected and messages auto-delete after a set time. All physicians systemwide, and some nurses, now have access to the system on their iOS or Android devices.
